Our Team will assist you through a series of consultations, from the initial site visit, where they will gather the technical information and requirements so that they get an understanding of the finished product. Your account manager will assist with the choice of materials and the over all design. Once agreed we will schedule a delivery date, all the while ensuring that any alterations are fully catered for.

We find that one of the hardest hurdles our clients have to over come, is where to find inspiration, our designers will assist you by suggesting alternatives, but a good place to start is with Pinterest, this will give a variety of ideas and will help you visualise what the finished product will look like when completed.

Quality, Precision and Passion are the three values at the heart of Stair Arts success, these values are applied throughout the company , but no more so then in the manufacturing process, that is why we have invested thousands of pounds in the latest CNC technology.

Working from CAD drawing our CNC machine will cut every mortise, housing, and even dowel hole to a fraction of a millimetre, eliminating the prospect of human error.

Skilled operators, trained in every aspect of CNC operation will inspect every component of the staircase at every stage.

The continuous operation allows speed and accuracy, guaranteeing every project is delivered on time, every time.

Manufacturing

With many home makers returning to the more traditional designs for their interiors, Stair Art encompasses, not only the modern technology of staircase construction but with our skilled team of joiners, embraces the “old school” methods, ensuring the longevity of the build.

Sustainability means everything to us here at Stairart.
Just as we have taken skills passed down through our family generation we also want to sustain a company to pass on to the future generation of our family.

That’s why only using the best quality wood from sustainable sources is important to us. To achieve this we have built a close relationship with our wood suppliers assuring the timber is only sourced from THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL (FSC) or PROGRAMME FOR THE ENDORSEMENT OF FOREST CERTIFICATION (PEPC)

FAQ’s

What is the minimum headroom I need on my new staircase?

On the access between levels, the minimum headroom clearance must be 2m.

For loft conversions where there is not enough space to achieve 2m a reduced height will be satisfactory if at the centre of the stair width is 1.9m reducing to 1.8m at the side of the stair. But please check with your building control.

What height does my handrail need to be?

The handrail will need to be positioned 900mm up from the pitch line or floor

Can I have an open-tread staircase?

Yes!!

The only stipulation is that all stairs which have open risers should be constructed so that a 100mm sphere cannot pass through. we can do this in a number of ways but the easilest and cleanest way would to use a stub Riser

For public stairs, regulations are currently asking for no open risers.

What is toughened glass?

The tempering or toughening of glass involves subjecting it to high heat, around 700°c, and cooling is quickly, a process known as quenching.

The quenching process takes around 60 seconds, creating a stronger layer on both sides of the glass. This locks in tensions in the core of the glass with this simple, effective process increases the strength of glass four times.

Tempered glass is known as “safety glass” because this process means that it becomes much less brittle but will shatter completely when damaged. It will ‘break safely’ meaning that rather than razor sharp fragments, it crumbles into small, ‘granular’ type pieces.

Do I have to have a landing at the top of my staircase?

Yes!!

1. Landings must be provided at the top and bottom of every flight of stairs.

2. The landing distance in front of the top and bottom step must be wider than the width of the staircase.

3. No door should swing closer than 400mm onto the front of any step

Which types of glass can be used?

UK regulations are unclear about what type of glass may be used. This is unlike Building Regulations elsewhere in Europe which always specify Laminated Glass.

we would recommend using 10-12mm tounghen glass with balustrade which is either rebated into the handrail or when using “D” barckets

If you was looking to not have any handrail or newel post we would highly recommend using 17mm laminated glass
